Kira Jones started with Chaffee County Fire in 2014 as the administrative assistant. In 2015 she became a volunteer with the District, and in 2017 moved into a career position. She has also held the position of Fire Inspector and Fire Marshal. In 2024, Kira was appointed interim Fire Chief and was appointed as the full time Chief in April of 2025.

Kira and her family moved to Buena Vista in 2007. When she's not at the fire station, she and her family enjoy coffee dates at the local coffee shops, hiking all the trails, camping and living in a community where you still find familiar faces at the grocery store.

"I remember when I first moved to BV, the sense of community pulled you right in. That community is still present today, and that, that is something special. Growth and change are inevitable, how one chooses to respond to that growth and change are what creates the environment you are in. I love this valley; I plan to be here for as long as I am able."
