The Friends provides a mechanism for community members and businesses to support the district through tax exempt donations. As a non-profit, “The Friends” is also able to submit grant proposals to charitable foundations.  100% of donations and grant awards go directly to fund items/needs identified by the fire chief and firefighters. These requests are needs outside of the district’s annual budgetary constraints. Maintaining functioning and up-to-date fire apparatus, personal gear and facilities is a constant challenge for any fire district. Chaffee County Fire Protection District is responsible for much of the 999 square miles of the county.  The district is called on for not only vehicle accidents and structure fires, but also wildland fires, water rescue, backcountry emergency events, assisting search and rescue, and medical emergencies among many other duties. Expectation is immediate readiness and response for any of these events not only for staff and the many volunteers but also for apparatus and gear. The Friends is honored to be able to assist our fire personnel to be prepared to meet those  demands.

Since it’s inception, The Friends has assisted financially with many events and equipment purchases. A few examples include:

Avalanche beacons

Swift water rescue gear
